40 years... In 1966, looking ahead, forty years seemed like an eternity. But, in 2006, looking back, it seems like a flash.
Upon graduation from Erie County Technical College in 1968, I started my career with the New York State Department of Transportation. Throughout the years I have worked on survey, the soils unit, highway design, structure design, and in 1996, I transferred to the maintenance unit as the Assistant Resident Engineer for the Genesee/Orleans County Residency. On March 29, 2003, I retired and I am enjoying it immensely.
Life in general has been good. On June 6th, 1970 I married Shirley Haight of Barker. We were blessed with three fabulous boys. Jamie, a Nurse Practitioner for the VA in Buffalo married Lisa Voelkl of Walworth, NY, last September. Jamie and Lisa are expecting their first child, our first grandchild, and we are excited. Lisa is a Registered Nurse at Park Ridge Hospital in Rochester. Our son Peter is a Physical Education Teacher at the Cantalician Center in Buffalo, and is completing his masters at Canisius College. And son Charles is a Graphic Designer and is currently working at TM Design in Rochester.
During the years we have traveled throughout most of the Canadian Provinces and every state except Hawaii. Last winter, we went to Florida, and this past spring to Myrtle Beach, SC. Since retiring I have kept busy remodeling the house, gardening, landscaping, and camping, which includes hiking, bicycling, and rafting.
