Forty years used to seem like forever…So where did the last forty go? Sure doesn’t seem like we have been out of high school that long!
Life is an adventure and I have had a grand time on my adventure so far. After graduating from SUNY Geneseo in May 1970 and marrying Bob Kelley (Newfane class of ‘66) in June 1970, I embarked on a very rewarding 30 year career back at “Good Old Roy-Hart.” I taught 2nd grade for 16 years and kindergarten for 14 years at Gasport Elementary, retiring in June of 2003.
Along the way, we built our own home on Mountain Rd. in Gasport and had two children. Chris, our 31 year old son, is in LA working as a stuntman in Universal’s “Water World” show and Six Flag’s (Magic Mountain) “Batman Thriller” show. He has also done some “extra” work this past spring and has even appeared on “My Name is Earl,” “Las Vegas,” and “Invasion” -- of course, only in the background. Our daughter, Kathleen is 28 and is a fourth grade teacher at Newfane Intermediate. She owns her own home in the town of Lockport and is engaged to be married in August 2007. Her life is very busy and full.
After Bob and I retired in 2003, we began to do more traveling. To celebrate our retirement we took a two week cruise/land tour of Alaska. For the last three winters we have toured the southern part of the US from Florida to California with our camping trailer. Of course, we take our Honda Goldwing Motorcycle along. Western New York winters are much more enjoyable when we are not physically here! A highlight of our travels has been visiting friends along the way. We thoroughly enjoy our motorcycle and take many long trips with it during the spring, summer, and fall. Last September, we rode to South Dakota and had a super time. In fact, this July we are riding to Nashville, TN, with a group of our Goldwing friends. The Goldwing Road Riders Association is holding the National Rally at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel. Unfortunately, we leave on July 1 and I won’t be able to attend the Saturday reunion dinner.
Every day we thank God that we still have our health and are able to continue traveling so we can enjoy the magnificent beauty of the United States. As you can see from this bio my adventure continues. Of course, there has been occasional rough going along the way, but for the most part my life’s adventure has and continues to be rewarding and inspiring.
I wish the best to all of my classmates and hopefully I will be able to see some of you at the Friday night get together.
Bob
