Paul Simmons
After graduating, I attended Fredonia State at the behest of my parents. After a dismal two semesters, I joined the Navy and trained as a corpsman (medic). In 1969, I was assigned with the 3rd Marine Division in Viet-Nam. The experience haunted me for a good many years.
After discharge from the Navy, I was sworn in as a police officer with the City of Hialeah in
Florida. For the next 22 years, I served in uniform -- narcotics, auto theft, forfeitures, surveillance, and stakeout (the predecessor of SWAT), and retired in 1995 as a Sergeant. I then went searching for America and settled in Marianna, a small town in the Panhandle of Florida.
For the past 10 years, I have been extensively involved in the building and development of New Life Family Church in Marianna. I have also worked in all phases of residential construction, and recently completed construction of my personal residence. I am a sometime professional sculptor, and in all my spare time I hunt, fish, and teach firearms courses. I have come up short on my interpersonal relationships but thanks to the grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, I have a fine son Ryan, a firefighter, I am alive and sober for almost 20 years and that’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it.
I will be attending this reunion!
