Dennis Childs
I remember singing "Those Were The Days" with words composed by Paul
Ferrington at graduation ceremonies. Wow, 40 years ago, how time flies.
I attended SUNY Geneseo for 2 years but decided I was not ready for college. I began my career at Harrison Radiator in June of 1968. Debbi Hain and I married in Sept of 1968. I was sent a draft notice and decided to join the USAF and take my chances there. I was trained as an aircraft mechanic and in December 1970 was given orders to Bien Hoa, Vietnam. In December 1971 I returned to the US with an assignment to Mather AFB in Sacramento, CA.
I returned to Harrison Radiator after my discharge from the Air Force. My
service time counted toward retirement time at Harrison. I retired from
Delphi Thermal Products with 31.9 years.
I am now living in Riverview, FL, east of Tampa. I do not miss the winter
weather at all. My favorite line to tell friends and family back home: I
would rather sweat my butt off mowing the lawn than to ever shovel snow again.
Moving here was a great decision and I’m enjoying my retirement. For those of you still working...get out and enjoy LIFE.
Then again, I do work part time. I process passengers for Carnival Cruises
out of Tampa. If you book a cruise from here look for me behind a computer.
I have a daughter, Lisa, 37, and a son, Michael, 34. Lisa is a technical
sales associate with Allen-Orton LLC and lives in Dacula, GA. Mike is Marketing Manager for Lexus and lives in Hackettstown, NJ, with his wife Lisa. Yes, there are 2 Lisa Childs's.
I will not be attending the reunion, but will be in Middleport in June to
celebrate my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary at the Basket Factory. Maybe I'll see
some of you locals there.
