Dan Guild
After graduating from Roy-Hart in 1966 I went to SUNY at Delhi. That was lots of fun and after 2 semesters it was back home to Middleport for some work at FMC and trying to figure what the future would be.
I enlisted in the US Air Force in September of 1967. Spent a year in Texas and a year in Vietnam and 2 years in lovely Hawaii. In Hawaii I was a General’s Aide for 6 months and when the General was transferred to New Jersey he asked if I wanted to go with him. That’s right, the answer was no, so I worked as an assistant at the golf course for a year and a half.
Was discharged from the Air Force in September of 1971. Spent approximately a year in Florida playing lots of golf and even found a person who was willing to sponsor me on the PGA Tour. Well, that venture did not work out. Jim Paron joined me in Florida in 1972. We had some great times and then it was back to Middleport. Homesick or something like that.
Then life got really serious. I met the love of my life, Deborah Ann Brooks (Roy-Hart Class Of ’70). We were married November 10, 1973. Went back to school and got a degree in Information Technology from Monroe Community College in 1976. Have enough credits from SUNY Buffalo and Brockport for 5 degrees (oh well). Have been doing the computer programming thing for 30 years (RPG, Cobol, Fortran…yuk). Jobs included Union Carbide (Tonawanda), Spalding Fibre (Tonawanda), Bausch & Lomb (Rochester), JA Jones (Charlotte, NC), and a few jobs doing the consulting thing. Am presently DP Manager at Erb Co Inc in Buffalo, NY (wholesale plumbing and heating).
After residences in Rochester, Victor, Riverside, Lockport, and Charlotte, NC, we have been in Middleport since 1984. Deb is a registered nurse and is currently the Risk Manager at Medina Hospital. Deb and I have 5 children (all boys): Christopher (30), Ryan (26), Tyler (21), Brandon (18), and Tanner (14). Deb and I are very proud of our children and all of their accomplishments. They have given us some exciting memories that will last a lifetime or two. They forgot everything I taught them regarding sports. They all excelled in the sports they participated in and a lot of our fondest memories are at Roy-Hart with the kids and sports.
Love playing golf, traveling, friends, family, and life in general. I cannot even spell the word “Retirement.” Time with my grandson Aiden is precious (my little monkey)!! Looking forward to more grandchildren…
Look forward to seeing everyone in a few months!!
